Bradwell Power Station has undergone significant decommissioning over recent years which has included the removal of all nuclear fuel and then progressively the removal of all buildings and services. As part of its care and maintenance preparations BNFL Magnox Generation required a Type 3-survey inspection of all designated areas to Bradwell Power Station to identify the presence of Asbestos Containing Materials. |
![]() |
To locate and identify as far as reasonably practicable the presence and extent of any materials suspected of containing asbestos within the designated areas including service ducts, inside risers, floor, wall and ceiling voids, lift shafts etc.
|
The survey was carried out in a manner that minimised the disruption to the customer’s operations and protected at all times the health and safety of all other persons who may have been at risk from the inspections and investigations. |

Representative samples were taken of each type of material suspected of containing asbestos identified during the survey. The survey team extracted these representative samples suspected of containing asbestos identified during the survey. The number of samples taken was sufficient to enable confirmation of whether asbestos was present or not.
Survey teams did during the course of their inspections check for suspect material debris/remnants in the immediate and general area where inspections were carried out that may or may not be associated with the main item / product inspected. During type 3 surveys, identified suspect debris or remnants were sampled and details recorded in the normal way.
|
We confirmed that all areas were inspected for any asbestos containing materials as per the instruction and that no asbestos containing materials were identified within the above site. If suspect materials are discovered during refurbishment, demolition or maintenance activities, the work should be suspended until confirmation by analysis or otherwise is given as to the type of material present and any special procedures that may be necessary to eliminate the problem |
